Panelists for the Summit

Dr Thang Leng Leng

Dr Thang is a socio-cultural anthropologist with research interests on aging, intergenerational approaches and relationships, gender and family.

 

She is known for her works relating to intergenerational approaches, and is the co-editor in chief of the Journal of Intergenerational Relationships (Taylor and Francis, USA).

 

She is currently Head of Department of Japanese Studies, and the Co-Director of Next Age Institute at the Faculty of Arts and Social Sciences, National University of Singapore.

 

Dr Thang is also active in community services, serving as member of Families for Life Council (MSF), and Chair of Fei Yue Family Service Centre, among others.

Carlos Andres Monasterios

Carlos Andres is a Hospitality and Tourism Management Graduate from Temasek Polytechnic, and one of the 12 members in Youth Advisory Group (YAG) of the National Committee on Prevention, Rehabilitation and Recidivism (NCPR). 


As a child, Carlos Andres struggled in school and went through the unconventional route of exploring self identity through his association in anti-social activities. He had numerous brushes with the authority and went through various rehabilitation programmes.

Carlos Andres has managed to overcome those trouble period of growing up. Leaving those days behind, he remains unafraid of being vulnerable and accepting of his past in hopes of using those experiences to inspire other at-risk youths and advocate for a joint community effort to tackle youth social issues.

Louise is the founder and owner of Differentiate and its renowned mentoring programme, Protégé.

 

Her entrepreneurial approach to business is founded on more than 30 years corporate experience in the financial services sector, having worked both globally and regionally in senior leadership roles at organisations such as IBM Australia, Visa Worldwide and ABN Amro Asia Pacific, prior to founding Differentiate in 2006.  She created Protégé in 2013 to support young business women to find their own voice and ensure they have a 'seat at the table'.

In addition to being a leadership coach with organisations such as INSEAD and Harvard Business School, she was the first in Asia Pacific to become an accredited Coaching Supervisor.

Louise is a proud recipient of the 'Dr Marshall Goldsmith Achievement in Coaching Award', Top 100 Coaches 2018, awarded by World HRD Congress.  Currently she serves as 1st Vice President on the AWARE Board, and was on the Executive Committee of the Financial Women's Association Singapore (FWA) from 2011-16 where she created its Advancing Women in Finance mentoring programme, winner of the AWARE New Initiative Award 2013. 

 

In 2009 she received the inaugural 'The International Alliance of Women (TIAW) World of Difference 100 Award', which honours women who have made an impact on the economic empowerment of women.

Dr Justin Lee

Dr  Lee is a Research Fellow at the Institute of Policy Studies where he has been tasked to develop the mentoring programme for research assistants.

 

His main interest is in understanding the needs of disadvantaged and vulnerable populations and he has embarked on a project to crowdsource social needs with community partners using a wiki platform.

 

He is also the Chairperson of ArtsWok Collaborative, a non-profit organisation engaged in arts-based community development projects that seeks to build the capacity of socially-engaged arts groups through training, research and advocacy.

Dr John K E Tan

Dr Tan is the founding president of Youth Work Association (Singapore) and also the Executive Director of Children-At-Risk Empowerment Association (CARE Singapore).

 

He is passionate about youth work and believes that mentoring is a powerful tool for positivity in the lives of young people.

Dr Roland Yeow

Dr Yeow has been involved in youth work since 2004.  He is currently the Executive Director of Boys’ Town and was previously a resident of Boys’ Town from 1992 to 1994.

 

Having gone through his own journey of being mentored by various mentors, he truly sees the benefits of such important inventions that transformed many lives. 

 

Roland holds a Doctorate in Management - Specialization: Organizational Learning, Development & Non-Profit Management and is also a graduate of the Harvard Business School Executive Education Program.
